Congratulations to Chris Seddon, Chair of YMCA Blackburn, who won the Mohammed Khan Leadership Award and Ahlam Hasan who won the Woman of the Year Award at One Voice Annual Dinner Awards Night 2017.
Chris Seddon’s award was for the recognition of her work supporting the refugee community within Blackburn with Darwen and Ahlam Hasan was for her volunteering efforts in the community. The Mohammed Khan Leadership Award acknowledges people that have promoted community cohesion through leadership and is chosen by the leader of the Council.
Chris said, I am so surprised and delighted to receive this award and for once I was speechless. I love supporting young people and families when needed. To me our town, Blackburn, is proud and vibrant with a diverse population. Respecting and valuing our neighbours can only support our communities especially our young people to live in harmony in our town and country.
Councillor Khan said, Chris is a worthy winner of this award. She has done much good work over the years to promote community cohesion. She has led efforts to build bridges between different communities.
Ahlam said, “My heartfelt thanks to The Tim Parry Johnathan Ball Foundation for Peace, YMCA, ARC Project, The Children’s Society and Action Factory for giving me the volunteering opportunity to help the community, and I will continue what I am doing in the wider community in order to build peace and pave the way for a brilliant and fruitful future.”
